You spend so much time cooking a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner for your family, but don’t forget about decorating the table. With some basic supplies, you can make a centerpiece that will make your Thanksgiving dinner truly memorable.

Ideas for Your Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Pumpkins

Pumpkins aren’t just for carving, they can be used to decorate your Thanksgiving table. Cut the top off a pumpkin and clean out the inside. Arrange dried or fresh fall flowers inside the pumpkin for a seasonal centerpiece. If you are short on time, You can simply arrange a few pumpkins on a bed of fall leaves for your Thanksgiving centerpiece.

Harvest

Look no further than your garden for Thanksgiving centerpiece ideas. Fill a basket or decorative bowl with colorful fruits and vegetables. Tie dried corn husks around several candlesticks with twine and arrange them around the bowl and along the table.

Candles

Arrange fall leaves underneath several candlesticks for a simple, yet elegant, centerpiece. Use candlesticks of varying heights to add interest. Wind a fall garland around the base of the candlesticks and along the table to pull everything together. You could also arrange some chunky pillar candles on a plate surrounded by pine cones and fall flowers.

Food

Have your dishes do double duty by incorporating them into the centerpiece. Use a tiered food display stand to hold condiments, finger foods or desserts. You could also make your turkey or ham the focus of the table. Place your turkey on a raised platter and add greenery or vegetables around the edges as a garnish. Arrange your other dishes around the turkey.

Placement of Your Thanksgiving Centerpiece

If your Thanksgiving centerpiece will be at your dining room table, make sure it isn’t so high that it blocks the view of your guests from across the table. You can use a taller centerpiece for a buffet or serving table. If your table is long, make a few smaller coordinating arrangements to carry your decorating theme along the entire table.

Tying it all Together

Cover your table with a coordinating tablecloth and decide where you want your main Thanksgiving centerpiece and smaller arrangements to go. Scatter some fall leaves or wind a garland along the table to tie everything together. Bring some elements of the centerpiece to the place settings as well. For example, if you used flowers or greenery in your centerpiece, tuck a sprig into the napkin ring on top of the napkin. If you used pumpkins, put a small pumpkin on top of the plate. You could even hollow out the pumpkins and use them to hold single servings of gravy or soup.
